August 9th

august 9th is an auspicious day for the GCBs, becuz, its not sum lovey dovey day where we have to be wif gers, so we will gather and play mahjong. for 2 yrs now. Now one other thing that makes august 9th close to our heart is probably the fact that cb kai's birthday is on the 8th of august, so its like ermmm celebration on the eve shit, which i haf no idea how to explain it and sound convincingat the same time. so the story went as it is, 2 yrs in a row, we played mahjong on the nation's birthday. So we know, that Singapore is 40, and yes we came a long way and look damn good on a global level, compared to our neighbours. At this point, wat are we looking forward to achieve? watever it is, i want to be play a big part in it if i can.

All day long, from the kopi tiam in jurong west to the les amie restaurant at shaw tower, we haf singaporean runnong their mouth, no our. cuz im guilty of it sumtime. running our mouth complaining of the steep public transport fares, the rigid education systems and so on and so forth. but i feel that every single one of us mutherfarkers love this lil' island in their own way and we can be as patriotic as GI joe. juz that we dun show it, we dun run ard waving 'i love SIngapore' banners. As of such, the Know it all government of ours, they turn the national day's celebration into machiam a meh ri ka's July 4th Indenpendent's day.Really, being personally involved in the NDP when i was serving my times in SAF, i realise that on this day august 9th, Ppl all across the nation can express their love for singapore to a frightening magnitude. im not tokking shit here really. At the parade, during the pledge taking and majulah singapura-ing, i have never seen so many ppl so into the pledge and anthem. i was one of them. it wld be accurate to say tt im no big fan of the pledge taking ans national anthem... in sch i remember tt i always try to siam assembly so i can dun sing and say we the citizen...... and if i were early, i'll juz move my mouth in the most ridiculous manners, and im so damn sure i was not the only one guilty of this. i remember seeing sum dumbass fucker sleep while saying the pledge and he was lip-synching too, the only reason why i noe he is asleep is becuz he went on and one muttering nonsense wif his rite hand on his oh so honourable heart long after we were dismissed. But the shit is, over at the parade, in my smelly and swaety army uniform, i was virtually shouting out the pledge and singing the majulah deal wif so much pride. And it wasn't juz me, i saw sum 80 yr old ah mah happily saying the pledge in splutter of brioken english. It make me feel so good to be involved, but of cuz things went downhill from there after tha parade is over and we need to pack up. Den they have the community singing shit which they will sing all the songs we are so familiar from primarys ch, all the stand up for singapore deals. my fav is 5 star arising. so nice!!!!!!!!, followed by of cuz we will get there, where i really dunnoe, but stefanie thoroughly convinced me tt we will get there lor.... Its good to have so many ppl singing stand up for singapore. but really we have to do more than juz stand up in nation building.

The parade of cuz is a big highlite. watching the guard of honour contingents standing there all rigid waiting so long was kinda fun. ppl start to observe which one cock up and if u are so sway to be caught on tv, chances are u will be ridiculed for the next 40 yrs. Parade commaders are the most stress. ever so often, thjere will be parade commanders shouting wrong shits and then there will be rumours that they got demoted after tt. The 21 GUn salute was my personal fav, probaly beecuz i was from an artillery unit and my unit,2!st battalion Singapore Artuillery was involved in the 21 gun salute of ndp 2001. good shit.
The fire work that closes the celebration is probably wat everyone is looking out for. the grand display of firework tt causes million of dollars of tax payer money is really worth it. breathtaking, tt's all i can say.

AS u all can see, NDP is really sumthing tt we shuld all enjoy. sumthing tt we can share and still be fucking satisfied. i haf decided to try to be involed in more NDPs. There is but one aspect of NDP tt pisses me off quite bad. it seems tt singapore is renowned for our dynamic fast paced of life, but i really see no poin in making the songs in ndp fast as well. over the yrs, songs like wo men shi kuai le gong ren and une mumania thing has evovled ferom simple melodious songs to bass thumping techno shit and they are so fast now, poor kids perforeming muz be trying to catch their breaths from belting out so much techno in such a short time.

yeah my point is, no matter how much we resent certain things, we are really a very patriotic bunch. And im sure when i say the following cheesy statement, im not saying for meyself only, that is from this land i was born, for this land i will die :)

HAPPY 40TH BIRTHDAY SINGAPORE.....
